We wanted to follow-up with our article “If You Are An International Shipper Know The Restrictions” with another reminder to make sure you understand the International shipping restrictions of the shipping carriers. International Mail Manual (IMM)
The USPS International Mail Manual details what you can and cannot ship Internationally. Make sure that you understand the restrictions before shipping. Shipping insurance coverage does not protect you if you ship a prohibited or restricted item. Your item may be confiscated by customs and disposed of.
The following undercover news report details a shipper that sent a $1700 watch to Russia using the USPS. The USPS sold him insurance coverage but when the watch went missing they denied the claim as watches are prohibited items when sent to Russia via Express Mail. Make a note: watches are prohibited to ALL INTERNATIONAL DESTINATIONS when sent via the USPS Express Mail service.
