FedEx and UPS Declared Value Coverage Limitations

Purchasing shipping insurance coverage from Shipsurance is a smart decision from a cost perspective. However, did you know that FedEx and UPS have limitations of coverage for specific commodities? These are defined coverage caps that you, the shipper, must know and understand when shipping merchandise. As a matter of fact, see how FedEx explains themselves here. Once there,  click on “Declared Value and Limits of Liability (Not Insurance Coverage)”. It states “Contact an insurance agent or broker if you desire insurance coverage. WE DO NOT PROVIDE INSURANCE COVERAGE OF ANY KIND.”

This chart shows some of their limitations:

Items FedEx Limits UPS Limits
Gold, silver, & bullion $1,000.00 $100.00
Artwork, fine art, paintings, and similar $1,000.00 $50,000 w/pre-approval
Antiques & tableware $1,000.00 $50,000 w/pre-approval
Glassware, signs, mirrors, ceramics, porcelains, china, crystal, glass, framed glass, and similar $1,000.00 $50,000 w/pre-approval
Jewelry, gemstones, watches $1,000.00 $500.00 (Intl)
Furs $1,000.00 $50,000 w/pre-approval
Coins, stamps, sports cards, souvenirs and memorabilia $1,000.00 $50,000 w/pre-approval

Before you ship anything with a high value, know what will and will not be covered. The carriers WILL accept payment for declared value coverage, but if something happens to your shipment you will not be covered. Insure with Shipsurance and we provide you with our clear and concise coverage conditions. Insure more for less with Shipsurance.
